INC-UPI Rallies Command Attention at Quirino Grandstand

Thousands of supporters from Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) and the United People’s Initiative (UPI) gathered at the Quirino Grandstand and along EDSA to hold a three‑day “Rally for Transparency,” focusing on government accountability, budget practices, and flood‑control project investigations.

Police and security officials deployed a large presence, notably from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), who monitored the crowd, traffic, and potential for escalation while remaining on standby for any disruptions.

Organisers emphasised the event wasn’t about targeting any particular individual—rather, they framed it as a civic demand for stronger transparency and more consistent governance.

Key Details:

  • The gathering drew over 2,000 attendees in its early stages, with many arriving early and some setting up camp at the rally sites.
  • Security personnel coordinated with local government units and traffic authorities to clear access points, manage pedestrian flows and ensure public safety.
  • While tensions and political undercurrents were present, officials noted there were no major incidents or injuries reported as of midday.

    Why It Matters:
  • Large‑scale public expression of concern signals that citizens are paying close attention to issues like corruption, project transparency, and accountability in government.
  • The rally offers an indicator of how civil society, religious organisations and advocacy groups can mobilise around governance issues.
