The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is cautioning the public about the potential political misuse of Zaldy Co’s recent allegations. They stress that serious claims—no matter how shocking—should be handled with care, backed by sworn testimony and verifiable evidence, not used as tools for political showmanship.
The CBCP is urging Co to return to the Philippines and formally file his accusations with proper authorities. They emphasize that declarations made solely on social media cannot substitute for legal testimony.
In their statement, the bishops stressed the importance of due process: “The Filipino people deserve clarity, not conjecture; truth, not rumor; accountability, not manipulation.”
They also warned that releasing such claims “at sensitive moments” could inflame public sentiment or be used as leverage in political power plays.
