Tagum Water Honoured for Energy Efficiency Excellence—Poised to Represent PH at ASEAN

Tagum Water, a bulk-water supplier serving Tagum City (Davao del Norte) and a unit of Manila Water Philippine Ventures, has earned national recognition for its sustainability efforts. The company was honoured at the Department of Energy’s 2024 Energy Efficiency Excellence Awards, receiving the top award in the “Energy Management in Industries – Small and Medium Industries” category.

The win stems from Tagum Water’s implementation of innovative technology: starting in 2020, it adopted Artificial Recharge technology (originally from Japan) to extract water more sustainably, replacing conventional deep-well methods. This shift helped reduce its energy efficiency index from 0.49 kWh per m³ to 0.22 kWh per m³, marking a roughly 43 % cut in energy consumption.

Over three years, Tagum Water saved about 5.21 million kWh, avoided costs equivalent to US $1.18 million (≈ P68.9 million), and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 1,250 tons of CO₂ annually.

As the Philippine representative, Tagum Water is now set to compete at the regional level in the ASEAN Energy Efficiency Awards for 2025.

Commenting on the milestone, the company emphasised that the award reflects its dual commitment to delivering excellent water services and championing sustainability and energy-efficiency.
