In Flooded Bulacan Town, Families Struggle to Bury Their Dead

As floodwaters continue to submerge large parts of Bulacan, residents are facing an unthinkable reality — even the dead have no place to rest. In some low-lying communities, cemeteries remain underwater, leaving families unable to properly bury their loved ones.

Locals recount heartbreaking scenes of makeshift burials and delays in funeral rites as heavy rains and persistent flooding from recent typhoons keep the ground soaked. Coffins are temporarily kept in chapels, homes, or higher areas until the waters recede.

The situation has added emotional and financial strain to families already struggling with loss and displacement. Officials say they are coordinating with disaster response teams to identify elevated burial grounds and provide assistance for affected households.

For many Bulacan residents, the ordeal underscores the deeper crisis of flooding that plagues their province — one that touches not only the living but also the departed.
