Manila Water Foundation (MWF) recently led an impactful campaign to mark Global Handwashing Day on October 15, emphasizing the importance of proper handwashing for health and hygiene in communities across the Philippines.
Under its flagship “Health in Our Hands” programme, the foundation conducted activities both on-site and virtually, reaching schools, jails, indigenous communities, and public institutions throughout Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
Key highlights of the campaign include:
- Installing and turning over handwashing facilities (e.g., multi-faucet hygiene stations) in schools and public institutions.
- Distributing hygiene kits and educational materials focused on the “7 Steps to Proper Handwashing”.
- Collaborating with partners such as the Global Handwashing Partnership (GHP), government agencies and private sector supporters to boost awareness and practice of hand hygiene.
MWF’s consistent efforts in hygiene education reflect the wider global message: handwashing with soap is one of the simplest yet most effective ways to prevent disease and promote public health.
