Senators Praise Marcos’ “Bold” Call for Cabinet Resignations to Reboot Governance

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s decision to seek courtesy resignations from all Cabinet secretaries is earning support from senators, who see it as a bold and strategic move to recalibrate his administration post-2025 elections.

Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel called it a “great move,” giving the President a chance to regroup his team while avoiding political intrigue. He urged Marcos to appoint Cabinet members who are not eyeing the 2028 elections, saying non-political personalities will bring a more “objective and scientific” approach to governance.

Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada echoed this sentiment, calling the directive a legitimate exercise of presidential authority. “This is a step toward meaningful reform and restoring public trust in government institutions,” Estrada said.

Senator-elect Tito Sotto described the move as “venturesomely bold,” while Senator-elect Ping Lacson took it further, urging Marcos to use his leadership to address deeper issues—particularly the upcoming 2026 national budget, which Lacson likened to a “deadly virus” due to what he sees as excessive greed among lawmakers.

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said the request is part of a wider effort to reassess each department’s effectiveness, promising that government services will remain stable during the transition.

Marcos’ call follows poor midterm election results for his allies, prompting the President to declare, “This is not business as usual. The people have spoken—they want results, not politics.”
