Filipina tennis star Alex Eala and American world No. 3 Coco Gauff kicked off their Italian Open doubles campaign with an emphatic win on Saturday, defeating the pair of Alexandra Panova and Fanny Stollar, 6-3, 6-1, in Rome.
The match lasted just about an hour, as the Eala-Gauff duo delivered a dominant performance to advance to the Round of 16.
Eala, currently ranked No. 70 in the world, recently bowed out of the singles draw after a tough first-round loss to Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine.
Gauff, meanwhile, remains active in the singles competition. The 2020 US Open champion is scheduled to face Poland’s Magda Linette in the singles Round of 32 on Sunday.
