Beloved actor and director Ricky Davao has passed away at the age of 63 after a quiet battle with cancer, his daughter Ara Davao confirmed in a heartfelt statement on Friday, May 2. The veteran performer died peacefully on May 1, surrounded by his children and loved ones.
Ara honored her father’s legacy, sharing on Instagram how Davao dedicated over 40 years to acting and directing. “His remarkable body of work and award-winning performances have left a lasting legacy,” she wrote, adding that he was also a devoted father, brother, son, and friend.
The announcement came after speculation of his death circulated earlier in the day. Viva Entertainment later confirmed the news, saying, “Pahinga ka na, Sir Ricky,” in a tribute posted on Facebook.

A true “actor’s actor,” he was known for his range across drama, action, and comedy. He began as a dancer and stage actor before transitioning to film and television, later adding directing to his repertoire.
His most recent projects include the 2025 film Sosyal Climbers, the series Silver Linings Redux, and the 2023 drama The Seed of Love. He was also set to appear in Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre.
Davao earned numerous accolades throughout his career, including FAMAS, Gawad Urian, and FAP acting awards. He was also celebrated for his professionalism, famously quoting Lino Brocka: “If you want to become a great actor, first and foremost, you have to be a good person.”
He leaves behind three children—Ara, Rikki, and Kenneth—from his previous marriage to actress Jackie Lou Blanco, and a partner, Mayeth Malca Darocca, who remained by his side until his passing.
Details of his memorial service will be announced soon
