AFP Clarifies: VP Security Group Not Disbanded, Just Reorganized for Efficiency

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has clarified that the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) has not been disbanded but rather reorganized for improved coordination.

In a statement released Saturday, the AFP explained that VPSPG has been merged into the newly-formed AFP Security and Protection Group (AFPSPG). This shift aims to streamline operations and strengthen the security framework for the Vice President and future occupants of the position.

“This administrative move ensures uninterrupted, robust protection through a more unified and optimized approach,” the AFP said.

The AFP emphasized that the change is purely structural and encouraged the public to avoid spreading misinformation. “Let’s use communication platforms to promote peace, not division,” the AFP urged.

The military also reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the Vice President and other top officials.

The VPSPG was initially created in June 2022. Before that, vice presidents were protected by the Security and Protection Battalion under the AFP’s General Headquarters and Support Command, without a dedicated unit.
