Rapper Omar Baliw Sues Apollo Quiboloy for Alleged Copyright Infringement Over Campaign Jingle

Filipino rapper Omar Baliw, legally known as Omar Harry B. Manzano, has filed a copyright infringement case against Kingdom of Jesus Christ leader Apollo C. Quiboloy and SMNI President Dr. Marlon Rosete. The complaint, submitted to the Pasig Regional Trial Court on March 24, alleges unauthorized use of Manzano’s song “K&B” during Quiboloy’s senatorial campaign.

According to Manzano’s affidavit, the song was altered and publicly used—without his permission—during Quiboloy’s campaign launch in Pasig City on February 11, 2025. The modified version of the track, which featured different lyrics and melodies to suit campaign slogans, was reportedly played at multiple campaign events across the country and remains online via YouTube.

The artist emphasized that he had issued a formal cease-and-desist order before the filing, which was ignored. His lawyer, Atty. Jeanne Castillo Anarna, stated that this non-compliance and unauthorized use elevate the matter to a criminal level under the Intellectual Property Code (RA 8923).

Under Section 217 of the law, copyright infringement can lead to one to nine years of imprisonment, plus fines ranging from ₱50,000 to ₱1.5 million, depending on the number of offenses.

Manzano underscored that the case is about protecting artists’ rights. “As artists, copyright is vital—it’s our livelihood and expression,” he said. Meanwhile, Atty. Anarna emphasized that their focus is not on damages but on asserting legal protection for Filipino creatives.

Released in 2019, “K&B” became a major hit in the local hip-hop scene, with nearly six million views on YouTube and over 69 million views on its live performance on Wish 107.5.
