Comedian and TV host Vice Ganda has strongly denied circulating claims that he praised former President Rodrigo Duterte’s leadership following the ex-leader’s arrest by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
A fake quote card attributed to Vice Ganda falsely claimed that the It’s Showtime host credited Duterte for making criminals surrender and even suggested that the public would not have survived the pandemic without him.
Vice took to X (Twitter) to clear his name, urging people to report the fake news:
“I never stated this. [Please] report.”
In another post, he firmly denied making any such statement:
“FAKE NEWS! Huwag paniwalaan ang kumakalat na pahayag na ito! Wala po akong inilabas o sinabi na ganitong statement.”
(Fake news! Do not believe this circulating statement! I never issued or said anything like this.)
Vice Ganda Warns Public Against Misinformation
Vice Ganda also reminded the public to be critical of online information, especially those without clear or official sources.
“Maging mapanuri at huwag basta maniwala sa impormasyong walang malinaw o opisyal na pinagmulan.”
(Be discerning and don’t believe information without a clear or official source.)
Duterte’s ICC Arrest and Transfer to The Hague
The controversy erupted after Duterte’s arrest on March 11, following an ICC-issued warrant for crimes against humanity linked to his bloody war on drugs. The former president has since been flown to The Hague, Netherlands, to face trial.
