SEOUL, South Korea – Actor Kim Soo-hyun has firmly denied rumors that he was in a six-year relationship with the late actress Kim Sae-ron, with his agency GoldMedalist threatening the strongest legal action against those spreading the claims.
The speculation surfaced after a woman claiming to be Sae-ron’s aunt alleged in an interview that the two stars were romantically involved, dating since Sae-ron was 15 years old and Soo-hyun was 27.
GoldMedalist: Rumors Are ‘False and Baseless’
In a statement released on March 11, GoldMedalist categorically denied the allegations, calling them “false and baseless.”
“The claims made by HoverLab Inc. in their YouTube broadcast about Kim Soo-hyun are clearly false and baseless,” the agency stated, as translated by Soompi.
The agency also condemned HoverLab Inc., the YouTube channel that aired the allegations, for attempting to tarnish the actress’s reputation posthumously.
“The dissemination of such false information mirrors the behavior of ‘cyber wreckers’ who caused the late actress so much pain during her lifetime,” GoldMedalist added.
Legal Action Against False Allegations
GoldMedalist announced that it would take legal action to prevent the spread of misinformation.
“Their actions, driven solely by self-interest, not only damage our company but also tarnish the honor of the deceased. We will respond to this matter with the utmost seriousness,” the agency stated.
They also urged the public not to spread or amplify the false rumors.
Kim Sae-ron’s Tragic Passing
Kim Sae-ron passed away on February 16 at the age of 24, with authorities ruling her death as suicide. Reports noted that she took her life on Soo-hyun’s birthday, adding to the speculation surrounding their alleged relationship.
Sae-ron, a former award-winning child actress, was known for her roles in “A Brand New Life,” “The Man from Nowhere,” and “The Great Shaman Ga Doo-shim.” However, her career took a downturn after a DUI incident in 2022, where she crashed into multiple structures. She left GoldMedalist later that year.
Meanwhile, Kim Soo-hyun, one of South Korea’s top actors, is known for hit dramas such as “Dream High,” “My Love from the Star,” “The Moon Embracing the Sun,” and “Queen of Tears.”
With legal action pending, GoldMedalist has made it clear that it will not tolerate defamation or the spread of false information.
