Manila, Philippines – Actress and content creator Ivana Alawi has once again shut down calls for her to enter politics, insisting that she has no plans to run for public office despite receiving multiple offers.
At a thanksgiving event, Ivana emphasized that politics is a serious responsibility meant to serve the country, not just a popularity game.
“Ang pagtakbo talaga is for the country… Hindi talaga ako tatakbo kasi wala naman akong alam diyan.”
(Running for office is for the country… I won’t run because I don’t know anything about it.)
Giving Back Without Politics
Ivana acknowledged that many people encourage her to run because of her charitable efforts, but she clarified that she doesn’t give back for political gain.
“Hindi naman ako namimigay para tumakbo at hindi mo rin kailangan tumakbo para makapagbigay.”
(I don’t give to people just to run for office, and you don’t need to run for office to give back.)
Selective on Political Endorsements
While declining to name them, Ivana revealed that politicians have approached her for endorsements in the upcoming midterm elections. However, she is highly selective about whom she supports.
“Napakaarte ko at napaka-choosy ko pagdating sa politiko… Ito ay para sa Pilipinas, para sa mga kababayan natin.”
(I’m very picky when it comes to politicians… This is for the Philippines, for our countrymen.)
Although she claims to have no political knowledge, Ivana ensures she studies a candidate’s track record, especially their legislative work.
This isn’t the first time Ivana has dismissed the idea of running for office. In October 2024, she stated in a TikTok video that she would never enter politics, as she didn’t want to “put the Philippines at risk.”
