Manila, Philippines – Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro refuted Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte’s claim that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s administration is too lenient on criminals.
In a press briefing, Castro questioned the basis of Duterte’s remarks, asserting that crime rates were actually higher during the presidency of Rodrigo Duterte.
“Before making accusations, Mayor Baste should first check the records and consult legal experts. Statistics show that crime rates were higher during his father’s term,” Castro said.
She challenged Duterte to verify his sources, emphasizing that the current administration has seen a decline in crime rates.
The exchange marks the latest political tension between allies-turned-rivals Marcos and Duterte factions, with law enforcement policies emerging as a key point of contention.
