Metro Manila commuters and motorists should brace for massive traffic congestion as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to begin major road repairs on EDSA by the end of March.
Key Roadworks and Traffic Adjustments
🔹 Phase 1: The EDSA Busway (northbound lane) from Balintawak to Monumento will be replaced with stronger pavement.
🔹 Temporary Adjustment: Buses will share adjacent lanes with private vehicles as the busway barriers are removed.
🔹 Phase 2: Repairs will extend to 15 segments of EDSA’s southbound lanes after the busway renovation.
🔹 Drainage System Upgrade: DPWH will widen EDSA’s drainage system to improve water runoff efficiency.
“The drainage systems were installed a long time ago and are too small. That’s why they are no longer efficient,” said DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan.
Traffic Woes Until the ‘Ber’ Months
The EDSA rehabilitation project is expected to take around one year, with peak traffic congestion expected until September, October, November, and December, when holiday rush worsens road conditions.
Some commuters voiced concerns, saying that the EDSA Busway should have its own dedicated lane to maintain faster public transportation.
