Palace Dismisses Duterte’s Claims Against Marcos as ‘Baseless, Ridiculous’

MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang has rejected former President Rodrigo Duterte’s latest accusations against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., calling them “baseless and ridiculous.”

Duterte claimed on Saturday that Marcos might extend his presidency beyond 2028 by imposing martial law, similar to his father, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. He also alleged that there were efforts to remove Vice President Sara Duterte from power to weaken her chances in future elections.

Palace Response

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin dismissed Duterte’s remarks as “a tall tale from a man prone to lying.”

🗣 “It is the leader of that troubled past who is depicting us as veering toward a system where anyone can be deprived of life, liberty, and property without due process,” Bersamin said, alluding to Duterte’s controversial presidency.

Duterte made the accusations during a rally in Cebu, attended by PDP-Laban members and Duterte supporters.

The Marcos administration remains firm in rejecting the allegations, while Duterte’s camp has yet to release a response.
