Rufa Mae Quinto Warns Fans of Scammers Using Her Name to Solicit Money

Actress-comedian Rufa Mae Quinto cautioned her followers against scammers impersonating her and asking for money under false pretenses, including claims of needing bail.

Quinto shared screenshots of a conversation involving the scammers through her Instagram Stories on Saturday, January 18. In the exchange, the scammer pretended to be Quinto and requested money, claiming they were unable to answer calls because they were crying.

Mga scammer, ‘wag na kayo sumabay sa panloloko using my name (Scammers, don’t use my name to deceive people),” Quinto wrote.

She further emphasized:

Wala po akong hinihingi kahit kanino. Be ware and aware, guys (I’m not asking for anything from anyone. Be cautious and aware, everyone).”

Legal Troubles Amid Scam Warning

Quinto’s warning comes amid her own legal challenges, as she faces 14 counts of violating Section 8 of the Securities Regulation Code. The charges are linked to her previous endorsement of Dermacare, a skincare company accused of being involved in an investment scam.

After arriving in the Philippines from the United States on January 8, Quinto voluntarily surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). She was released on January 9 after posting bail of ₱1.7 million.

Despite the allegations, Quinto maintains her innocence. Her legal counsel asserts that she is also a victim in the situation, as Dermacare allegedly has not paid her for her endorsement work.

A Reminder to Stay Vigilant

Quinto’s situation highlights the importance of verifying any financial requests, especially those involving public figures. She urged fans to remain alert and avoid falling for such schemes.
