The Palace has declared the suspension of government work and classes in all levels in Manila and Pasay on January 13, 2025, due to the Iglesia Ni Cristo’s (INC) National Rally for Peace.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin issued Memorandum Circular No. 76, citing the need to accommodate the large number of participants and ensure the organized conduct of the event. The suspension covers both public and private schools.
Government agencies involved in essential services, such as health, disaster preparedness, and emergency response, will continue operations. Meanwhile, the suspension of work in private offices is at the discretion of their respective management.
Road Closures and Event Context
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced road closures near Quirino Grandstand for the rally.
Last December, the INC revealed the rally would demonstrate their support for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s position against impeachment moves, particularly those targeting Vice President Sara Duterte, who is currently facing three impeachment complaints.
Vice President Duterte has welcomed the impeachment filings, stating that her critics have been threatening such actions since 2023.
