Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano opened up about navigating relationship red flags during the media conference for their new romantic-comedy series, How to Spot a Red Flag. The show, directed by Dwein Baltazar, explores love, deception, and personal growth as Mariano’s character, Cha, discovers she’s been catfished by Pangilinan’s character, Matt.
Tackling Red Flags
Mariano emphasized the importance of being upfront in relationships. “If you’re not comfortable with how someone treats you, be honest. Say what you like and what you don’t like—it helps them reflect,” she said.
Pangilinan added that staying grounded and seeking honest feedback from trusted people is crucial. “In love, it’s easy to get blinded. Surround yourself with people who can point out red flags you might not see,” he advised.
Keeping “Kilig” Real
As a love team with years of experience, Pangilinan and Mariano shared how they keep their on-screen chemistry natural.
“Kilig is not rehearsed,” Pangilinan said. “When we started, we didn’t fully understand each other’s emotions in scenes. Now, we rehearse lines and actions, but we leave room for spontaneity. That makes it authentic.”
Mariano agreed, adding, “You can’t fake it. We react to each other genuinely, and that makes the emotions flow naturally.”
