Actress-comedian Rufa Mae Quinto has garnered support from fans and colleagues after addressing an arrest warrant issued against her for securities violations. The case stems from her endorsement of Dermacare, a controversial dermatological company.
Quinto’s lawyer, Mary Louise Reyes, confirmed the warrant, which cites a violation of Section 8 of Republic Act 8799. This provision prohibits unregistered individuals from acting as brokers, salespeople, or associated agents in securities transactions.
Quinto’s Statement and Public Support
In an official statement, Quinto assured her cooperation with authorities and vowed to resolve the issue through the proper legal channels.
Messages of encouragement poured in for the actress, including one from Sparkle GMA Artist Center Vice President Joy Marcelo, who expressed confidence in Quinto by saying, “Truth will prevail!” Quinto shared Marcelo’s message on Instagram, along with other posts praising her accountability.
One netizen commented, “You can feel her accountability in her statement, and at the same time, her confidence that she can defend herself based on facts and as a person.”
Quinto’s lawyer added, “This too shall pass,” in a caption accompanying the supportive posts.
Connection to Dermacare Complaints
The arrest warrant relates to Dermacare, a company previously endorsed by Quinto. Complaints against Dermacare have implicated other public figures, including actress-businesswoman Neri Naig, who is facing separate securities and estafa charges.
Quinto’s lawyer clarified that the actress is not involved in any large-scale estafa cases, a non-bailable offense.
Looking Ahead
While Quinto faces legal challenges, her proactive stance and transparency have earned her widespread praise, with many hoping for a resolution in her favor.
