Actress-turned-entrepreneur Neri Naig is set to leave the hospital no later than Wednesday, December 4, following a court-ordered medical evaluation, according to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
Naig, who was arrested on November 23 for syndicated estafa and violations of securities law, was brought to the hospital on November 29. BJMP spokesperson Jail Superintendent Jayrex Bustinera confirmed that the medical evaluation is standard procedure for detainees in BJMP facilities and is expected to conclude within five days.
“We expect [her discharge] no later than Wednesday, December 4. We are also coordinating with the hospital and the court for her return to jail,” Bustinera said.
Detention and Charges
Naig is currently detained at the Pasay City Jail female dormitory. Syndicated estafa, a non-bailable offense, could mean Naig may spend the holidays in detention unless the court grants provisional liberty based on merit.
The case stems from allegations involving her business activities, which have also implicated other celebrity endorsers and politicians.
No Health Issues Reported
Before her hospital transfer, BJMP reported that Naig did not exhibit health concerns upon arrival at the detention center. Her hospital visit was purely procedural to comply with the court order.
Naig, who is married to Parokya ni Edgar lead vocalist Chito Miranda, has yet to issue a statement about the charges.
