The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) disclosed on Monday that it has not received any information regarding alleged threats to the life of Vice President Sara Duterte.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago stated during a Palace press briefing, “On the part of the NBI, we have not received any information on the threat against the life of the Vice President.”
Santiago also noted the absence of information about Duterte’s claim that a member of her security detail had attempted to harm her. He emphasized that the Vice President is protected by the Presidential Security Command (PSC).
“We haven’t received any information about her claim regarding one of her security aides. Remember that the Vice President, like other high-ranking officials, is protected by our Presidential Security Command,” Santiago said.
Controversial Assassination Remark
Vice President Duterte previously made an assassination statement targeting President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez. She issued this remark in response to the House of Representatives’ decision to transfer her chief of staff, Atty. Zuleika Lopez, from House detention to the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City.
Lopez was detained after being cited for contempt due to alleged interference in the House investigation into confidential funds linked to Duterte’s offices.
VP Duterte’s Clarifications
Duterte later clarified her remarks, stating they were not threats but intended to highlight the alleged danger to her own safety.
“I said, ‘If I die.’ That means in the first place, there was a threat against me. But they simply do not care that I am also concerned about my security because I hear things,” Duterte explained in an interview.
Despite Duterte’s claims, the NBI confirmed it has no information supporting her allegations of threats or security breaches.
