Chelsea Manalo Celebrates Jojo Bragais Tribute Shoes: “It’s a Story, Not Just a Heel”

Miss Universe Asia 2024 Chelsea Manalo has been honored with a custom-designed pair of heels by renowned Filipino shoemaker Jojo Bragais. Known for crafting iconic footwear for international and national pageants, Bragais unveiled the tribute shoes to celebrate Manalo’s remarkable journey and achievements.

A Design with Meaning

The glossy silver high-heeled design incorporates a platform for extra height and three straps for added security. A nude version of the shoe is also available.

Manalo, who received the “Miss Jojo Bragais” award during the 2024 Miss Universe Philippines competition, was visibly ecstatic upon seeing her namesake design for the first time.

“Oh my God, it’s beautiful! Nooooo, it’s beautiful!” she exclaimed. In a retro-themed promotional video for the shoes, she added, “Whoever will walk in this pair of heels, it’s not just a heel, it’s a story, your confidence, your dreams that you have to walk into.”

The Queen Behind the Shoes

Bragais described Manalo as an underdog whose rise reflects perseverance and resilience. “Chelsea is from a simple family and lacked resources and support. Many didn’t see her potential, but she proved herself and trounced more popular delegates,” he said.

Manalo made history as the first black woman to represent the Philippines at Miss Universe, advancing to the Top 30 of the global pageant and earning the title Miss Universe Asia 2024.

A Meaningful Connection

Bragais and Manalo’s collaboration dates back to 2021, when she modeled his “Jehza” shoe line for the 69th Miss Universe pageant. Despite limited resources early in her career, Manalo’s dedication and Bragais’ recognition of her potential led to a heartfelt tribute.

“It’s been six years since I designed a pair of shoes that truly incorporated my heart and the heart of the queen into a masterpiece,” Bragais said.

A Legacy of Empowerment

The Jojo Bragais tribute shoes continue a tradition of honoring the Philippines’ Miss Universe delegates, with past designs named after queens like Michelle Dee, Celeste Cortesi, Beatrice Gomez, Rabiya Mateo, and Gazini Ganados.

Manalo’s tribute shoes stand as a testament to her strength and ability to inspire. “She represents the core of my company—grit, grace, and a story worth telling,” Bragais concluded.
