Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia revealed plans to offer Kevin Durant a $120 million extension this summer, affirming their shared goal of having the 14-time NBA All-Star retire with the franchise.
Speaking to ESPN, Ishbia confirmed the two sides decided to postpone discussions until after the season due to NBA contract rules.
“Kevin loves being in Phoenix, and we love having him,” Ishbia said. “He’s off to an amazing start this season—one of the MVP leaders. We expect Kevin to sign an extension and stay with us long-term. We hope he finishes his career here.”
Durant’s Current Contract and Impact
Durant’s existing contract runs through the 2025-26 season. Meanwhile, his All-Star teammate Devin Booker is in the first year of a four-year, $220 million extension with the Suns.
Durant, 36, is currently sidelined with a calf injury, missing the past six games. The Suns, who began the season strong at 8-1, have struggled without him, going 1-5 in his absence.
Despite the injury, Durant is delivering impressive numbers this season, averaging 27.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.
With mutual interest from both Durant and the franchise, an extension appears imminent as they aim to solidify his place as a cornerstone of the team.
