Authorities have arrested a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) kagawad in Manila for allegedly beating a 15-year-old minor named Lei to death. CCTV footage revealed that Lei and a friend had initially reported an earlier assault involving the SK kagawad, who allegedly attacked another minor in a nearby park. However, shortly after making their report, the SK kagawad and an accomplice approached Lei, escalating the confrontation.
In the footage, the suspects chased Lei and his friend until they cornered Lei on Manalo Street. The SK kagawad, aided by another individual reportedly related to a barangay official, proceeded to beat Lei. Barangay personnel appeared on the scene but allegedly intervened only after the victim had lost consciousness.
Lei was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to severe head trauma. His mother disputes claims that Lei’s group harassed the suspect’s girlfriend, stating that her son and his friends were unjustly targeted. The victim’s family is also pressing for accountability from barangay personnel, who they say failed to protect Lei after he sought their help.
The two suspects are currently in the custody of the Manila Police District as investigations continue.
