Vice Ganda Plays Struggling Provider in ‘And The Breadwinner Is…’ Teaser

Star Cinema has released the official teaser for And The Breadwinner Is…, a Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry starring Vice Ganda. The teaser, which premiered on Oct. 22, offers a mix of comedy and drama as it follows the life of an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) grappling with the challenges of being the family’s main provider.

The teaser opens with Vice Ganda and Lassy discussing their contracts as OFWs. Vice Ganda’s character is shown working tirelessly at a pastry shop abroad, while narrating the harsh realities of their uncertain life overseas. In one scene, he video calls his sibling, played by Jhong Hilario, who shows off what appears to be a five-story family home, supposedly built from the OFW’s remittances.

However, when Vice Ganda’s character returns to the Philippines unannounced, he is shocked to find the facade of their old home instead. Confused and emotional, he confronts his family, played by Eugene Domingo, Gladys Reyes, Maris Racal, and Kokoy de Santos, asking, “What happened to the house I was building?” Tearfully, he adds, “They say I’m a breadwinner but why am I a loser now?”

Directed by Jun Lana, And The Breadwinner Is… will premiere in cinemas on Dec. 25 as part of the MMFF lineup.
