Barangay Ginebra Defeats San Miguel, Advances to PBA Governors’ Cup Finals Against TNT

Barangay Ginebra secured a thrilling 102-99 victory over San Miguel in Game 6 of the PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals on Sunday, October 20, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, earning them a spot in the finals against defending champions TNT Tropang Giga.

Ginebra led 86-78 early in the fourth quarter before San Miguel staged a comeback, narrowing the lead to 99-98 following consecutive baskets by June Mar Fajardo and EJ Anosike. However, Justin Brownlee’s crucial three-pointer gave Ginebra the cushion they needed to close out the game.

“It took every ounce of energy we had to win tonight,” Ginebra coach Tim Cone said, praising his team’s resilience throughout the series.

Maverick Ahanmisi led Ginebra with 25 points, while Brownlee contributed 21 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. Japeth Aguilar added 20 points, and RJ Abarrientos had 16 points. Scottie Thompson recorded a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

For San Miguel, EJ Anosike scored 30 points, and June Mar Fajardo posted 22 points and 15 rebounds. Despite their efforts, the Beermen were unable to extend the series.

Game 1 of the Finals will take place on Sunday in Antipolo.
