In Tagbilaran, Bishop Alberto “Abet” Uy has called for a moment of prayer and the ringing of church bells in remembrance of the 11th anniversary of the devastating Bohol earthquake. The event, set for 8:12 am, will see church bells ringing for 30 seconds to honor the more than 200 lives lost and the extensive damage, including the destruction of heritage churches. Bishop Uy highlighted the community’s resilience, stating that the anniversary serves as a time to reflect on Boholanos’ strength, unity, and faith.
The 2013 earthquake affected at least 24 historical churches in Bohol, ten of which were designated as national heritage landmarks. Many of these structures have since been restored.
Bishop Uy encouraged the community to continue drawing strength from their shared faith and to honor their journey of recovery and rebuilding.
