Gilas Pilipinas made a significant leap in the FIBA world rankings, climbing four spots to secure the No. 34 position.
The updated rankings, released on August 10, 2024, followed the conclusion of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In the FIBA OQT, Gilas Pilipinas delivered a stunning upset against Latvia, advancing to the semifinals despite a setback against Georgia in their second match.
The team faced Brazil in the semifinals but fell short with a 71-60 loss. Brazil went on to secure a spot in the Paris Olympics.
Meanwhile, the United States, gold medalists at the Paris Olympics, maintained their No. 1 ranking. Serbia rose to No. 2, Germany held steady at No. 3, France jumped five spots to No. 4, and Canada moved up two spots to No. 5.
Gilas Pilipinas will return to action in the November window of the FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers.
