Filipino Olympian boxers Eumir Marcial and Carlo Paalam have earned byes for the first round of their respective events in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Eumir Marcial, competing in the men’s 80kg category, will advance directly to the Round of 16. He is set to face Turabek Khabibullaev of Uzbekistan, a bronze medalist at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. Their match will take place on July 31 (Philippine time).
Meanwhile, Carlo Paalam will begin his campaign in the Round of 16 of the men’s 57kg event on the same date. He will go up against Ireland’s Jude Gallagher, a gold medalist from the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Other Competitors
Nesthy Petecio will face India’s Jaismine Lamboria in the Round of 32 of the women’s 57kg category on July 30.
Aira Villegas will start her campaign on July 29 against Morocco’s Yasmine Mouttaki in the women’s 50kg Round of 32. Hergie Bacyadan is set to compete against China’s Li Qian in the women’s 75kg Round of 16 on July 31.
