A woman who was soon to be married lost her life in a tragic motorcycle accident in Sta. Ana, Manila, according to a report by Jhomer Apresto in 24 Oras Weekend on Sunday.
CCTV footage revealed that the victim was riding tandem on a motorcycle driven by her fiancé. As they approached an intersection along Pedro Gil Street in Barangay 876, another motorcycle from the opposite lane suddenly turned left and collided with them.
“I heard a loud crash. When I looked, I saw that two motorcycles had collided. The woman was lying on the ground,” said Barangay Councilor Jarel Guiriba.
The impact threw the woman off the motorcycle, causing her to roll several meters along the road. She was immediately rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
“The driver of the other motorcycle was taken to the Orthopedic Hospital for medical attention. The fiancé, who was also injured, received treatment as well,” stated Manila Police District spokesperson Police Major Philipp Ines.
The couple was scheduled to marry in September.
Suspect in Custody
The suspect, now in the custody of the Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit, claimed he was on his way to buy motorcycle parts when the accident occurred. “When I was about to turn, I noticed my motorcycle was moving too fast. I am asking for forgiveness, I didn’t mean for this to happen,” he said.
The suspect faces charges of reckless driving resulting in homicide. Guiriba noted that the area is prone to accidents due to the numerous intersections.
