Young Zamboanga Native Tops 2024 Pharmacists Licensure Exam Despite Health Challenges

In an inspiring display of perseverance, 25-year-old Rhedz-Wei Hadjula from Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur, secured the top spot in the 2024 Pharmacists Licensure Examination despite battling a genetic health condition. Hadjula, a graduate of Universidad de Zamboanga, achieved an impressive score of 92.85%, leading the 1,185 successful examinees.

Hadjula, who suffers from thalassemia, a blood disorder that impairs the body’s ability to produce enough hemoglobin, did not expect to outperform his peers in such a competitive exam. Thalassemia often leads to anemia, requiring frequent blood transfusions to manage symptoms. Despite his condition, which he describes as milder compared to his brother who also has thalassemia and could not pursue education, Hadjula managed to excel academically.

Supported by his family, including four siblings who closely monitor his health, Hadjula remains grateful and motivated. He shares advice for other young people facing challenges: “If you’re happy with what you’re doing, you actually won’t get tired. Just find yourself, keep your feet on the ground.”

Hadjula’s achievement is also a proud moment for Universidad de Zamboanga, which saw two more of its students place in the top 10 of the exam. Faima Nain and Rasheedkhan Jainal secured the 5th and 10th places, respectively, with scores of 91.25% and 90.62%.

This remarkable feat not only highlights Hadjula’s determination and resilience but also shines a light on the support and quality education provided by his university and family.
