A surprising discovery was made on Sales Road near Villamor Air Base in Pasay City when authorities found a deep hole early Sunday morning. Initially noticed as a lump around 10 a.m., it quickly transformed into a hole approximately three meters deep, situated between Gates 2 and 4 of the Air Base.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) acted promptly, temporarily closing the affected lane to facilitate immediate repairs. According to a Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) engineer at the scene, the hole was determined not to be a natural sinkhole.
Efforts to manage the situation included deploying a vacuum truck from the Skyway to extract water that had accumulated in the hole, believed to have leaked from nearby Maynilad pipes. Maynilad has issued a notice to residents of five local barangays, advising them to prepare for potential delays or interruptions in water service continuing until 10 p.m. due to the ongoing repairs on the affected water lines.
This incident adds to a series of infrastructural concerns in the area, prompting a coordinated response from local authorities to ensure public safety and minimize disruption.
