A bus driver is facing potential legal repercussions after being allegedly captured on video playing a mobile game while operating his vehicle. The incident, which quickly garnered attention on a mobility-focused website, shows the driver interacting with his phone behind the wheel, sparking public safety concerns.
Despite the driver’s claims that he was merely checking his phone due to traffic-induced boredom and sleepiness, authorities are taking the matter seriously. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is considering charges under the Anti-Distracted Driving Act. Both the driver and the bus company he works for could be subject to disciplinary actions, including suspension of the bus company’s franchise for employing a driver who engaged in such negligent behavior.
The LTFRB emphasized the strict prohibition of cell phone use while driving, highlighting the risk it poses to public safety. Under Republic Act 10913, engaging in activities like texting, calling, or gaming while driving is considered “distracted driving” and carries hefty fines and potential license suspension or revocation for offenders.
This incident has reignited discussions on road safety and the enforcement of driving regulations, especially in the public transportation sector.
