Sarah Geronimo Makes History at the Billboard Women in Music Awards

In a landmark achievement, Sarah Geronimo has become the first Filipina to be honored at the prestigious Billboard Women in Music Awards, held in California. The Popstar Royalty received the Global Force Award at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Thursday, marking a significant milestone in her illustrious career.

During her heartfelt acceptance speech, Geronimo highlighted the importance of courage and hope, stating, “this recognition signifies courage and hope. Courage to accept and embrace one’s self and the courage to break boundaries and rise above all the setbacks and challenges that every artist needs to face.” She also expressed her aspiration for this accolade to serve as a bridge between the Philippines and other nations, fostering collaboration and unity through music. Geronimo proudly proclaimed, “Once again I am Sarah Geronimo, from the Philippines. Mabuhay ang OPM. Maraming maraming Salamat po.”

The singer was accompanied by her husband, Matteo Guidicelli, who took to Instagram to celebrate her achievement, praising her as a “Global force” and encouraging her to continue making music.

Geronimo was in distinguished company, with artists such as Annalisa from Italy, and Luísa Sonza from Brazil, also receiving the Global Force Award. Other awardees included Karol G (Woman of the Year), Ice Spice (Hitmaker), NewJeans (Group of the Year), and Victoria Monet (Rising Star).

Billboard’s Women in Music Awards acknowledge women from diverse generations and music genres who shape the sound of today’s music scene. This accolade is a testament to Geronimo’s impact on the global stage, recognizing her contributions to music and her role in promoting Original Pilipino Music (OPM) internationally.
