Young Volunteer Social Worker Fatally Shot in Caloocan City

A tragic event unfolded in Caloocan City as a 19-year-old volunteer social worker, Mark Anthony Adobas, was fatally shot in front of his mother. The suspected motive behind the crime is reportedly related to an unsettled debt.

The incident occurred on the evening of February 15, within the confines of their home, as reported by GMA News “24 Oras.” The victim’s daughter recounted the horrifying moment when shots were fired, initially mistaking the sound for a TV explosion. Despite their attempt to flee, the assailant continued shooting outside their home, with the victim sustaining gunshot wounds to his body and face, as confirmed by his death certificate.

Surveillance footage captured the arrival of the suspect on a motorcycle, who was later apprehended in a follow-up operation. The suspect, previously incarcerated for drug-related charges, has denied any involvement in the crime.

Police Major Valmark Funelas, chief of Caloocan Police Sub-Station 10, indicated that the crime was financially motivated. According to the victim’s family, they had only managed to pay half of their debt, leading to threats from the suspect of dire consequences if the remaining balance was not settled.

In the wake of the tragedy, the victim’s family has continued to receive threats, forcing them to leave their home for safety concerns. The father expressed a desire for the apprehension of the remaining suspects, including the mastermind behind the murder, to ensure their peace and security. The police are actively pursuing the individuals involved to bring justice to the victim and his grieving family.

This incident has cast a shadow over the community, highlighting the urgent need for improved safety measures and the swift resolution of criminal activities to protect innocent lives.
