The K-pop scene is abuzz with the announcement from Attrakt, the talent agency behind the girl group Fifty Fifty, revealing plans for a significant revamp of the group’s lineup centered around member Keena. Scheduled for a new single release in June, the group is embarking on a journey of reformation, promising a fresh direction for Fifty Fifty.
Since their debut in November 2022 as a quartet, Fifty Fifty has experienced substantial changes. Members Aran, Sio, and Saena departed from the group following the termination of their exclusive contracts with Attrakt due to contract disputes. This left Keena as the sole original member, around whom the new iteration of Fifty Fifty is being structured.
In a strategic move to scout new talent, Attrakt conducted its first open audition in Singapore on February 3, drawing participation from around 120 females from Southeast Asia, all over the age of 14. The audition process is set to continue in Korea and Japan, reflecting the agency’s comprehensive search for fresh faces to join Keena. The final audition is slated for March 2 in Thailand, highlighting Attrakt’s commitment to assembling a diverse and talented new lineup.
David Yong, CEO of Evergreen Group Holdings and a newcomer to the K-pop industry himself, served as one of the judges for the auditions. His company has invested approximately 10 billion won ($7.5 million) in Attrakt, demonstrating significant backing and confidence in the agency’s direction and vision for Fifty Fifty.
The anticipation for Fifty Fifty’s new beginning is heightened by the enduring popularity of their single “Cupid,” which re-entered three Billboard charts in February, a year after its release. The track’s performance on the World Digital Song Sales, World Album chart, and the Global 200 Excl US chart underscores the group’s impact and the potential for their upcoming endeavors.
As Fifty Fifty prepares for its next chapter with new members joining Keena, fans and the music industry alike await with keen interest to see how this rejuvenated group will shape its identity and sound. The new single in June marks not only a return but a rebirth for Fifty Fifty, promising a blend of continuity and innovation in the ever-evolving K-pop landscape.
