From Alleged Criminal to Law Graduate: Jigger Geverola’s Bar Exam Success

Jigger Geverola, implicated as the alleged mastermind behind a pawnshop robbery in Cebu City, has successfully passed the 2023 Bar examinations. This achievement was reported amidst his current detention under the custody of the Cebu City Police Office for his alleged involvement in the robbery of the Oro Sugbu Pawnshop and Jewelry Store in Colon Street, Barangay Kalubihan, Cebu City. The incident occurred on the morning of November 25.

Geverola, a graduate of law from Southwestern University in Cebu City, was one of the 3,812 examinees out of 10,387 law hopefuls who passed the Bar exam, which was held in September. The Supreme Court reported a passing rate of 36.77% for the 2023 Bar exams. The results were announced on December 5, with the oath-taking and roll-signing ceremony scheduled for December 22.

In an interview, Geverola expressed mixed emotions about his success in the Bar exams, acknowledging both the joy of his accomplishment and the sadness due to his current situation. He mentioned his desire to help those in need, indicating that his first clients would be his fellow detainees, totaling 41 individuals. Geverola remains hopeful about his future, particularly about taking his oath as a lawyer and potentially being released from custody.

This development adds a complex layer to Geverola’s story, juxtaposing his alleged criminal involvement with his recent academic success. The Cebu City Police Office stated that Geverola’s fellow robbery suspects, Dann Carlo Flores and Jordan Baquino, identified him as the mastermind of the incident, claiming that he instructed them to use a red Honda Civic sedan as their getaway vehicle. However, Geverola has denied these accusations, stating that he was at a feeding program when the burglary happened.
