MANILA, Philippines — After requests from several groups, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has provided the transmission records for the national and local elections in May 2022.

The logs are now accessible on the agency’s official website.

Comelec said they had previously submitted the logs to the Joint Congressional Oversight Committee  (JCOC)  as early as the third quarter of 2022 in line with Republic Act No. 8436, as amended by R.A. No. 9369.

The National Privacy Commission absolved Comelec and software vendor Smartmatic of data privacy violations relating to last year’s elections for “lack of merit.”

The issue involved the alleged leak of election data, including survey forms and the foreign voters’ list.

With the publication of transmission logs, the public can access more information regarding the election process, essential to guaranteeing accountability and transparency in the country’s electoral system.

This action would increase public confidence in the electoral process and prevent future disputes over election data management.
