MANILA, Philippines — Department of Finance (DOF) Secretary Benjamin Diokno announced today, March 7, that the government will provide P1,000 ‘aid’ to more than 9 million families.

He stated that the P500 will be distributed every two months to help Filipinos deal with rising inflation, which starts in a few weeks.

“Ito ay ₱500 for two months, ₱1,000 for 9.3 million households. Baka in a few weeks mabibigay na ‘to sa naaapektuhan ng inflation.”

The agency also promises to keep rolling out its fuel discount program for farmers and fishermen and its Kadiwa Program.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will keep track of the 9.3 million people eligible for P1,000 assistance.

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the rate fell to 8.6% in February from 8.7% in January. However, only the transportation group contributed to the February price decrease, while nine commodity groups continued to show rising inflation.
