MANILA, Philippines – Persons with disability (PWDs) are now entitled to free parking in all commercial establishments in Parañaque City as announced by Mayor Eric Olivarez on Feb. 15, after the City Council’s approval of the ordinance.
PWD drivers or passengers just have to show their PWD identification card, issued by the city’s Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) under Dr. Sabas De Guzman, to the establishments.
Fines for establishments that will violate the provisions of the City Ordinance No. 48 range from PHP1,000 to PHP2,000, with a chance of getting their business permits revoked, should they continue with non-compliance. A warning will be given for the first offense.
PWDs whose rights are not granted may file a written complaint addressed to the PDAO or to the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) headed by Atty. Melanie Soriano –Malaya.
According to Mayor Olivarez, the implementation of the said ordinance, along with providing wheelchairs and crutches, is part of making the City of Parañaque PWD-friendly.
On Feb. 14, the city relaunched its project, “Free Movies for Parañaque City’s Senior Citizens”, which gives seniors one free pass to a movie in the city’s cinemas every Monday or Tuesday.
