Andrea Brillantes to Play “Dyesebel” In ABS-CBN’s New Adaptation


MANILA, Philippines — According to recent reports, Andrea Brillantes has been selected to play the starring role in “Dyesebel,” a legendary Philippine television fantasy series that will begin airing on ABS-CBN in 2023.

Talent manager and comedian Ogie Diaz made the announcement in a vlog post published on Sunday, December 11. 

“Sa 2023 abangan na kung sinong gaganap na Dyesebel. Syempre iyan ay walang iba kung ‘di si Andrea Brillantes.”


(In 2023, watch out for who will play Dyesbel. Of course, that is none other than Andrea Brillantes.)

“Andrea, good luck sa pagiging Dyesebel mo ‘no? Kasi ‘yong iba nagtatanong kung marunong bang mag-swim si Andrea. Yes, marunong mag-swim,” Diaz added. 

(Andrea, good luck in becoming Dyesebel, because others are asking if she knows how to swim. (Yes, she can swim.)

Diaz also shared that Andrea’s mom is a diver, reassuring fans that Andrea can swim.

Meawhile, It hasn’t been decided yet who will play Brillantes’ leading man in the said teleserye, but Diaz suggested that the actress’ boyfriend, Ricci Rivero, should play the role. 

Anne Curtis most recently portrayed “Dyesebel” in 2014 under Dreamscape Entertainment and ABS-CBN’s production. While Marian Rivera played the character in 2008, with Dingdong Dantes as Fredo via GMA 7. 

Vilma Santos, Alma Moreno, Alice Dixson, Charlene Gonzales, and Rivera were among the other notable actors that portrayed the legendary Filipino mermaid.
