Eighteen years after the second installment of the movie, 90s tweens and teens can say miracles do happen once in a while when you believe.

Just as the year is coming close to an end, Disney surprised fans with a royally wonderful news: a new “Princess Diaries” movie is confirmed to be in the works, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Two decades have passed since the release of the first Princess Diaries movie, which left audiences in awe of the land of Genovia and mesmerized by Princess Mia Thermopolis’ beautiful transformation. In 2004, “The Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement” also became a blockbuster hit.

Since then, the movies, based on Meg Cabot’s novels of the same title, have established their spots as two of the go-to nostalgic feel-good films.

90s kids need not worry about feeling old though, as the new Princess Diaries film is said to be a continuation of the franchise, rather than a remake.

Debra Martin Chase will be back as producer, and Aadrita Mukerji, whose works include “Supergirl”, “Reacher”, and “Quantum Leap”, will be penning the script for the third film. Aside from these, no other details have been confirmed as of the moment.

Gary Marshall, who directed both the previous Princess Diaries movies, talked about a third movie during his interview with PEOPLE in 2016. “I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago. It looks like we want to do The Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan,” the director said. Unfortunately, that never came to fruition as Marshall passed away in 2016. However, as per ELLE’s report, “it’s possible that the sequel will still be set in New York, to honor his idea”.

As for the iconic faces of Genovia, Anne Hathaway’s return has not yet been guaranteed. However, during her interview with Entertainment Tonight in October this year, she said: “I would more than entertain it, I’m pulling for it. If there’s any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work. We would go to where she was and put a green screen behind her and just make it happen.”
