San Fernando City, La Union – With the signing of Executive Order No. 25 for “Menstruation Privileges”, female employees of the provincial government of La Union will soon be allowed to work from home for two days every month during their period.
Along with this, menstrual kits will be provided in every office of the provincial government.
Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David said on her Facebook post on Oct. 18 that this EO is a “hug” to each of the LGU’s employees.
“I hope that with this EO, we can spread awareness and be kinder to our female employees lalong-lalo na sa kanilang period days,” said the first lady governor of the province, whose advocacies include women’s empowerment, youth development, and expanded access to quality education.

According to Zeny Aspiras, the supervising administrative officer at the Human Resource Management Office, although the two-day privilege is a work-from-home arrangement, “it will still be output-based as per the existing rules under Civil Service Commission.”
The new policy has gained praises, with one netizen remarking it is a good “example of equity” and is “very considerate”.
