MANILA, Philippines — Sunday marked the beginning of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s trip to New York, where he will participate in the 77th United Nations General Assembly.
Vice President Sara Duterte, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Lieutenant General Bartolome Vicente Bacarro, and Philippine Army Commanding General Lieutenant General Romeo Brawner Jr. were present for the President’s departure honors at Terminal 2 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The flight of the President departed at about 8 a.m. Following his arrival, he will be meeting with members of the Filipino community at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
Marcos Jr. will be accompanied by the First Lady, as well as other members of the Cabinet and prominent business executives.
On Tuesday, September 20, the President is slated to deliver a speech at the UN high-level discussion. He will likely touch on topics such as the rule of law, food security, and climate change in his address, which is scheduled at 15:15 New York time.
He will also meet with key UN officials and some of the 152 heads of state and government attending the UN General Assembly.
Aside from activities related to the general meeting, President Marcos is expected to speak before an economic briefing and to bring more investments to the Philippines.
Meanwhile, while Marcos is on a US Trip, her sister Irene Marcos-Araneta will be his “special representative” to attend the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch. Her husband, Gregoria Araneta III, accompanies Irene.
