Power distributor Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) announced a ₱0.3907 increase in electricity rates this September.
This ups the overall rate to ₱9.9365 per kWh from ₱9.5458 per kWh last August. Meralco advised residential customers that this totals to an additional ₱78 payment per 200 kWh.
The price increase comes after two consecutive months where the company lowered down its rates.
Meralco attributes this price increase to more expensive fuel costs and weaker Philippine peso.
