2 Dead, 3 Wounded in Shooting Incident Inside Ateneo Campus

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director confirmed 2 are dead (one guard and an unidentified male), while 3 are wounded in a shooting incident that transpired inside Ateneo Gate 3 on a Sunday afternoon, July 24.

“Dalawa po ang confirmed na patay: ‘yung gwardya at ‘yung isang unidentified na lalaki na nandon sa Ateneo. May dalawang wounded, kinukuha na natin ang identity nila. Plus ‘yung sinugod sa ospital. Hindi pa natin alam ano ang status niya,” QCPD Director PBGen. Remus Medina told CNN Philippines.

[Translation: Two are confirmed dead: a guard and an unidentified man who was in Ateneo. There are two wounded and we are getting their identities. Plus the one who was rushed to the hospital. We are yet to know the status.]

The suspect is in the custody of QCPD, he added.

According to the Supreme Court Public Information Office, Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo was supposed to be the guest speaker in the Ateneo Law School Graduation ceremony Sunday afternoon.

“He was still in transit when the shooting happened and was advised to turn back. The Chief Justice is safe,” the SC PIO said.

ADMU also announced that the commencement exercises was canceled.
