Squid Game, Renewed for Second Season

The greenlight has turned for the second season of Netflix’s hit drama series, “Squid Game,” the giant streaming service announced its return on Monday.

In a video posted by Netflix, they showed the iconic singing doll along with the caption, “On your Mark. Get set. Green light. Squid Game continues.”

Squid Game’s writer, director, and executive producer Hwang Dong-Hyuk also greeted the fans through a letter.

“It took 12 years to bring the first season of ‘Squid Game’ to life last year. But it took 12 days for ‘Squid Game’ to become the most popular Netflix series ever,”

“As the writer, director and producer of ‘Squid Game,’ a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show.”

Hwang’s has likewise hinted that both the main character Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) and the masked antagonist, the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) will return.

“The man in the suit with ddakji might be back,” Hwang wrote, referring to the character portrayed by Korea’s Superstar, Gong Yoo.

Hwang likewise revealed that the boyfriend of Young-hee, the gigantic killer animatronic doll, will also be seen in the brutal game.

“Join us once more for a whole new round.”

The first season has recorded 1.65 billion hours of viewing in the first four weeks of its release in September, making it the most-watched show on the streaming platform.

Hwang has previously revealed that the new season will presumably premiere near the end of 2023 or early 2024.
