PASAY CITY, Philippines — Gwendolyne Fourniol from Negros Occidental was crowned Miss World Philippines 2022 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Monday, June 6.   

Fourniol bested 35 other candidates for the main title of the recently concluded national competition. She was crowned by Miss World Philippines 2021, Tracy Maureen Perez, who finished top 12 in the 70th edition of Miss World.

Fourniol was also awarded best in evening gown.

She will represent the Philippines in the prestigious international pageant later this year, aiming to snatch the elusive 2nd “blue crown” for the country.

Q: How do we cope up from an education deficit accumulated due to the pandemic?

“As an advocate of education, I do agree that during the pandemic, we have suffered the most. But the children who [lack access] to education have suffered the greatest. And working [hand-in-hand] with all [foundations] who empower the marginalized Filipinos, I believe [that] by uniting benefactors and encouraging our children, and allowing them to go back to school, especially during this pandemic will make this world a better place because education is the greatest weapon against poverty. Thank you!”

Meanwhile, Alison Black from Las Piñas won the Miss Supranational Philippines crown. Ashley Subijano Montenegro from Makati City will try to earn a back-to-back victory for the Philippines in Miss Eco International Pageant after her predecessor, Kathleen Paton, was able to win the environmental pageant earlier this year.

Ingrid Santa Maria from Paranaque City finished as Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas, while the New Miss Eco Teen Philippines is Beatriz McLelland of Aklan.
