MANILA, Philippines – DPWH Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain said that works at the PHP 3.39-billion Binondo-Intramuros Bridge Project are right on track for its planned opening this coming 2022 Holy Week (around the second week of April).

The Bridge Project is already 92 percent complete, with a span of 680 lineal meters, connecting the District of Intramuros at Solana Street and Riverside Drive and the District of Binondo at Rentas Street/Plaza Del Conde Street and Muelle dela Industria, having a viaduct structure over Estero de Binondo.

Among the works being conducted for the finishing is the completion of the up and down ramps at Binondo and Intramuros.

For the Binondo side, the up-ramp is at Muelle dela Industria Street, and the down-ramp is at Rentas Street and Plaza del Conde Street.

For the Intramuros side, the up-ramp is at Riverside Drive, and the down-ramp is at Solana Street.

“At 92 percent, we are rushing to finish the soon-to-be one of newest landmarks in Manila with its iconic basket-handle tied steel arch. By March, the contractor will begin the final retouching of the steel arch bridge and asphalt will be laid on the concrete slab so we are hoping for continued good weather,” said Sadain.

The project is financed by a government aid grant from the People’s Republic of China, and is under President Duterte’s administration’s “Build, Build, Build” program.

It aims to ease the traffic congestion in the Metro with its two-way, four-lane bridge over the Pasig River, and targets to cater to 30,000 vehicles per day.
